21 U.S. Destinations to Visit in 2021: Hāna, Island of Maui, Hawaii

Feb 1, 2021 | West, General Travel

With road trips and excursions away from major cities in vogue, go for the ultimate scenic drive on the famous 49-mile trek known as the Road to Hāna. The eastern Maui destination is one of the most unspoiled places on the island, allowing visitors to experience a little piece of heaven on earth. The drive on the Hāna Highway includes at least a dozen worthy stops to make while navigating the 59 stone bridges and making 619 hairpin turns. Most people start early in the day and make the trip through this tropical wilderness with spectacular ocean views and return the same day. To turn it into a more relaxing once-in-a-lifetime trip, don’t make any stops on the journey east and head straight to the Hana-Maui Resort. It will be a challenge, but all of the scenic views, gardens, lava tubes, and waterfalls will be there waiting for you on your return trip— unless you need a snack from Bruddah Hutt’s BBQ or one of the tasty food stands. The resort is a magical destination in one of the most idyllic locations in the country, with amazing hospitality, amenities, and dining. When you arrive in Hāna, spend the day exploring the charming downtown, take a walk to Hāna Beach Park, or just relax poolside before dinner.

Begin day two of your Hāna experience with a short drive to the beautiful ‘Ohe’o Gulch, also known as the “Seven Sacred Pools.” There will be significantly fewer people vying for the best spots for a relaxing and refreshing morning soak. Return to the resort for breakfast before heading to the stunning Hamoa Beach or an unforgettable hike on the Pipiwai Trail through the bamboo forest in Haleakala National Park. After another evening at the resort and dinner onsite at the famous Hana Ranch Restaurant, prepare for the scenic drive west, this time making as many stops as you like!
