The Friendly Confines

It’s time to “Play Ball” in the Wrigleyville neighborhood on the North Side of Chicago. The second oldest ballpark in the Majors is home to many fans’ favorite Midwest baseball team and just a cool place to watch a game. This is one stadium that causes you to walk a little faster as you approach, especially if it’s two hours before game time and the gates are open. It was originally called Weegham’s Park when it opened in 1914. But since 1927, it’s been called Wrigley Field.

Did You Know? It was at Wrigley Field where Babe Ruth’s “called shot” was made— when Ruth famously pointed to a bleacher during the 1932 World Series. Ruth then hit Charlie Root’s next pitch for a homer.

Getting There

Wrigley Field is in the middle of a residential area, so there are not many parking options available. If you want to drive to the stadium, use a parking app to find a nearby spot. Public transportation is definitely a good option, the CTA Red Line Addison Station is just a short walk from the ballpark. Many fans opt for ride sharing services; however, keep in mind that surge pricing will most likely be in effect once the game has ended.

Seating

The ballpark has been extensively renovated to enhance the experience and increase capacity with a wide range of seating options. There really isn’t a bad seat in the park. Seats between the bases and directly behind home plate are the most expensive— check the available options in the Club Box, Field Box, Terrace Box and Upper Boxes and Reserved Sections. If you want to see the action unfold in front of you, the 400 section of the upper box seats is a good spot.

With a seating capacity of 42,495, Wrigley field is one of the smaller ball parks in the majors. For this reason, especially after the Cubs won the World Series in 2016, ticket availability can be limited and the prices above average.

If you are looking for premium club seating, we recommend the following sections:

American Airlines 1914 Club – Located behind home plate between the dugouts, these seats provide a great view of each play, you can call balls and strikes.

Maker’s Mark Barrel Room – Located just beyond the visitors’ dugout on the first-base side, a great spot to catch a foul ball.

The W Club – Located on the third base side, you won’t miss any of the action on the field, especially plays at third base.

Catalina Club – Located behind home plate in the Upper Level, a great vantage point to see the entire field from an elevated viewpoint.

Food & Beverage

There is no shortage of classic ballpark food at Wrigley Field. As you explore your food and beverage options, expect to find some recognizable brands that include Giordano’s, Buona Beef, Garrett Popcorn, Fannie May, and Vienna Beef. We recommend walking around the ballpark pregame or between innings and choose your favorite vendor.

New for 2019: The food choices at the ballpark change every year. There is an effort to expand beyond the typical ballpark food and domestic beers. This year there are more than a dozen new draft and craft beers. New menu items include short rib fries, fried pork tenders, and beer can chicken sandwiches.

Ballpark Tours

Tours of Wrigley Field are available throughout the season. Tours vary slightly on game day, check the website for the tour descriptions. In general, tours are 90 minutes long and will bring you on the field. If you want a picture with the ivy in the background, check-out the Ivy Tour. There are also VIP Tours and Group Tours available.
