Nestled in the sea islands halfway between Savannah and Charleston, the charming small town of Beaufort, South Carolina should definitely be on your bucket list. It’s a wonderful place to visit any time of the year but is particularly beautiful in the spring.
Start your day at Lowcountry Produce with a homemade donut or delicious breakfast biscuit. Then take a walk down to enjoy the view from the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Have a seat on one of the great bench swings to relax and take in the salty breeze.
As you walk down Bay Street, there are plenty of specialty stores to check out— from home goods to fashion. You’ll also want to make a stop at Nevermore Books on Craven Street. This independent bookstore is a fun experience for booklovers of all ages.
To really enjoy the nature of the Lowcountry, take a drive out to Hunting Island State Park. You can walk on the beach to look for shells and sharks’ teeth, climb the lighthouse, and check out the alligators at the nature center! On the way there, stop at the Shrimp Shack for a truly unique “shrimp burger.”
Back in town, drive through the Old Point neighborhood to look at the breathtaking southern homes, with their antebellum architecture and Spanish moss-draped trees. After being here for the day, I’m sure you will want to come back and stay longer!
