A Game at PNC Park

Jun 24, 2019 | Blog, Northeast, Tours & Experiences

Home to the Pittsburgh Pirates, PNC Park is located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh along the Allegheny River. The park is considered one of the best and most beautiful places to watch a baseball game. A proper visit to PNC Park starts with crossing the Roberto Clemente bridge and heading to the Riverwalk before entering the park. On game days, the bridge is closed to car traffic and baseball fans can enjoy the shops, restaurants, and sports pavilion beyond right field. Stroll around the stadium and find statues of the Pirate greats including Bill Mazeroski, Honus Wagner Roberto Clemente, and Willie Stargell.

During the game, don’t miss the Pirates Pierogies on-field race. Cheer on Pizza Penny, Potato Pete, Bacon Burt, Jalapeno Hanna, Cheese Chester, Oliver Onion, and Sauerkraut Saul as they compete throughout the season.

A trip to any baseball stadium is not the same unless you bring home a souvenir. For all the latest Pirates apparel, gifts, and gear— The Pirates Clubhouse Store at PNC Park is located on Federal Street outside the Left Field Gate entrance, near the Willie Stargell statue.

Seating

With a capacity of approximately 38,500, seats at PNC Park are inexpensive by modern baseball standards. Sitting in one of the sections behind home plate affords you an amazing view of the Pittsburgh skyline. If you want to be close to the action and between the bases, consider the Dugout Box and Baseline Box sections. You cannot go wrong with any of the infield box seats.

If you would like to splurge on seats, check the following sections:

Hyundai Club seats are within the first 12 rows behind the plate (Sections 14-20), and include dining privileges to the exclusive Hyundai Club.

Club Cambria is located on the suite level of PNC Park. This premier club is limited to just 52 ticket holders.

Pittsburgh Baseball Club seats are in the first 10 rows of sections 207 through 228. The seats are elevated and provide a birds-eye view of the field. Through a private concourse, you have access to three exclusive lounges – Club 3000, Gunner’s, and Keystone Corner.

PNC Park is great to watch a game from your seats, but don’t forget to take a walk and explore the ballpark. If you’re visiting with children, visit the Highmark Kids Zone, located near the right field gate.

Food Options

There are more than a dozen food stalls and restaurants throughout the ballpark. To experience some of Pittsburgh’s hometown specialties we recommend:

– Primanti Brothers
– Mrs. T’s Pierogies
– Quaker Steak & Lube
– Augustine’s Pizza
– Benkovitz Seafood

If you are looking for a bite and drinks before the game, try one of these nearby favorites. One of the best parts of PNC Park is its prime location on the North Shore and its great restaurants.

Ballpark Tours

PNC Park tours are available Monday through Friday and before select Saturday home games during the season. Tours on game days may include viewing batting practice and/or player warm-ups. Tickets for the pregame tour must be purchased in addition to a valid ticket for that day’s game. Check the website for prices and tour options, including group tours.

Getting There

If you are driving to PNC Park, expect some traffic near the stadium. The park is convenient to Interstate 279, (Exit 1B), Interstate 376 and Interstate 579. Parking near the stadium is relatively easy and affordable compared to other major cities. We recommend the Alleghany Center Garage, First Avenue Garage or Mellon Garage, depending upon your driving direction.

The Pittsburgh Light Rail Service is a popular option with multiple stations around the ballpark, including the North Side transit station.

The Clemente Gate opens 2 ½ prior to game time. If you are attending a daytime game earlier than 7:05 pm, the Clemente Gate opens two hours prior to game time. All other gates open 90 minutes before first pitch.

Bonus: Diehard baseball fans will want to visit Pittsburgh’s Roberto Clemente Museum. Tours are by appointment only, so book your tour online in advance. During your visit to Pittsburgh, eat at Meat & Potatoes and have a drink at Butcher and the Rye. Both are a ten-minute walk away in the Cultural District. A convenient hotel to the ballpark is the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel, a Marriott Hotel & Resort property.
