Ice skating is a quintessential winter pastime, especially for couples and families. Rinks across the country offer unique experiences to fit every traveler. Here are some of our picks for amazing ice skating venues in the United States.

McCormick Tribune Ice Rink, Chicago, IL

Take a spin on the ice in the heart of downtown Chicago at the free McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park. Their Winter Workouts program also offers free skating lessons for all ages and skill levels, one hour before the rink opens on select days.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center, New York, NY

For a magical New York City winter experience, head to The Rink at Rockefeller Center. Purchase tickets, rent skates at the Skate House, and head onto the ice to skate under the world-famous Christmas tree.

VIP Skate Reservations are available for a premium experience. Prices vary depending on the timing but allow you to skip any lines and enter through a special VIP Igloo.

Skating by the Sea- Del Coronado Hotel, San Diego, CA

For a completely different experience, try a beachfront ice rink with Pacific Ocean at the Skating by the Sea rink at San Diego’s Del Coronado Hotel. You can reserve a rink side lounge with a fire pit and food and beverage service to watch the skaters after you’re done.

National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink, Washington, D.C.

Enjoy your ice-skating experience surrounded by the grand architecture of national museums and monuments at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden Ice Rink. For a small fee, you get two 45-minute skate sessions. Afterwards, have some hot chocolate or mulled wine at the Pavilion Café, located next to the rink.

Curry Village Ice Rink, Yosemite National Park, CA

Curry Village Ice Rink is located in one of America’s most beloved national parks. It offers breathtaking views of Half Dome and the surrounding mountains. Visitors can warm up with hot chocolate and s’mores at the rink’s fire pit or participate in one of their daily skating sessions.

Note: These are popular, limited experiences, so expect long wait times to get on the ice. We recommend going at off-peak hours during weekdays, or first thing in the morning when lines are shorter.
