Lassen Volcanic National Park is one of the few remaining sanctuaries of natural darkness, offering unparalleled views of the Milky Way. The Virtual Facebook Watch Party allows participants to learn about the galaxy.

Festival Highlights

  • Ask a NASA Astrobiologist
  • Ask an Amateur Astronomer
  • Explore the Night with the Junior Ranger Night Explorer Booklet

Participants can submit questions to astrobiologists Dr. David DesMarais and Dr. Niki Parenteau from the NASA Ames Research Center and Dave Schlom, host of the North State Public Radio Podcast Blue Dot.

During the events on August 14th (10 – 10:30am PST) and August 15th (2 – 2:30pm PST) the experts will answer questions via pre-recorded video. Park rangers and possibly either/both presenters will be in attendance to answer questions via live chat as well.

Junior rangers can print and complete the Night Explorer Booklet at home. For those that can visit the Loomis Museum and Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center in the Park before 4pm on Sunday August 16, they can pick up a junior ranger patch.

Check the website for the full schedule of activities and additional information.
