Take a Trip to Dodger Stadium

Jul 28, 2019 | Blog, West, Tours & Experiences

Home to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodger Stadium is in the Elysian Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The stadium overlooks downtown LA to the south and the San Gabriel mountains to the north. The first game was played in 1962, making the stadium the oldest ballpark west of the Mississippi River and third-oldest in the country after Fenway Park (1912) and Wrigley Field (1914). Dodger Stadium is an excellent example of mid-century modernism architecture— it’s rumored the design was influenced by Tomorrowland at Disneyland.

Did you know? Dodger Stadium is the world’s largest baseball stadium by seat capacity with 56,000.

Dodger Field

Your visit to Dodger Stadium will probably start by sitting in some traffic. Gates open 2.5 hours before game time, so try to arrive early and miss some of the ballpark traffic. Turn onto Stadium Way and make your way up Chavez Ravine to be greeted by the palm trees that surround the stadium.

Check your tickets, there are multiple entry points and you may not be able to reach your seats from every gate. The stadium was designed without ramps to get to your seats, and each entry is at grade. For that reason, there are 21 terraced entrances on the six different seating levels.

Another reason to arrive early is to be one of the first 40,000 fans on giveaway nights. Check the website for Dodgers Promotional Giveaway Schedule and other special events like Friday Night Fireworks.

Seating

With a seating capacity of approximately 56,000, great seats can be purchased at very reasonable prices. A major consideration when buying your seats is the location of the sun during the game. There is little shade during day games, especially in July, August and September, so make sure you bring sunscreen and your Dodgers hat.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced seat and a great view of the game, consider the Loge seats between first and third base. The Coca-Cola Right Field Pavilion is an all-inclusive section serving hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, soda, and water until the end of the 7th inning.

If you want to splurge on seats, check the following sections:

Lexus Dugout Club is the first nine rows behind home plate and the first few rows directly behind the dugouts. The section runs from 1st to 3rd base and includes in-seat service, as well as a Levy Restaurants buffet & private restrooms.

Baseline Club seats are located within the first 6 rows of the field, beyond 1st and 3rd base. Tickets here also receive in-seat service and access to private restrooms.

Dodger Stadium has some of the best ballpark food in all of baseball. You can’t go wrong with a Dodger dog and garlic fries, but the options are almost endless. There is no shortage of typical baseball food, including hotdogs, sausages, burgers and pretzels.

Here are some concessions that are unique to Dodger Stadium:

Base Bowls for California Roll Bowls, Teriyaki Chicken Bowls, and Orange Chicken Bowls

King’s Hawaiian Grill for BBQ Feast (Pulled Pork & Chicken), Hawaiian BBQ Dodger Dog, Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos, Smoked Big Island Lava Wing Platter, and Hawaiian Pulled Pork Sliders

LA Taqueria for Major League Carne Asada or Chicken Souvenir Nacho Helmet, Carne Asada or Chicken Tacos, Carne Asada or Chicken Burrito, Tempeh Nachos, and Cheese Nacho Souvenir Helmet

Think Blue BBQ for Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos, and BBQ Pulled Pork Dodger Dogs

Blue Heaven on Earth Bar has a large selection of deluxe cocktails, frozen argaritas, micheladas, draft beer, and wine. Check around your section— there are plenty of places to purchase a cold beverage and ballpark snacks between innings.

Ballpark Tours

Dodger Stadium offers multiple tour options and a pregame tour during the regular season. The popular Stadium Tour lasts 90 minutes and is available at 10:00am, 11:30am, and 1:00pm except on holidays, when the Dodgers are playing at home, or during special events. Also available are Clubhouse Tours, Pregame Tours and the Jackie Robinson Tour.

Each tour is unique, so choose the tour that fits your schedule and interests. The tours take fans behind the scenes and provide access to restricted areas around the ballpark. Getting on the field and into the Dodgers Dugout will be one of your baseball highlights for life. You will have a completely different perspective on the tour than you do when attending a game.
