Target Field in Downtown Minneapolis

Aug 11, 2019 | Blog, Midwest, Tours & Experiences

Home to the Minnesota Twins and located just a few blocks from the warehouse district and downtown Minneapolis, Target Field is a very fan-friendly ballpark. The first game was played here in April 2010, when it replaced the Metrodome, the former home to the Twins for over 25 years. Target Field is the smallest ballpark in Major League Baseball, with a footprint of only 8.5 acres, and it provides fans an amazing view of the Minneapolis skyline. Seating capacity is approximately 39,000, with a higher percentage of seats in the lower sections than at other ballparks.

A great place to start your Target Field experience is at Target Plaza— the pedestrian bridge and public gathering space connecting Target Field to downtown Minneapolis. Target Plaza is located between 6th and 7th Streets in the Historic Warehouse District. Don’t forget to visit the Twins Tradition Wall before entering the ballpark.

Did you Know? ESPN The Magazine ranked Target Field the #1 baseball stadium experience in North America.

Seating

The ballpark was designed to be fan friendly, giving fans great views of the field and downtown. It was also designed to be comfortable during the chilly spring games when inclement weather can disrupt the game. You will find public areas to keep you warm and more protected overhead areas than at most ballparks.

The seats are organized into sections, including the Main Level, Club Level, Terrace Level and Outfield Mezzanine Level. Purchase infield box seats or home plate and diamond terrace seats between first and third base to be close to the action and have great views.

Fan Fav Seats: Choose seats along the third base side to get downtown skyline views. The seats afford you a perfect view of the game as well as the sun reflecting off the downtown buildings as the day progresses.

If you are looking to splurge on tickets, check out these areas for premium seating:

Thomson Reuters Champions Club is located directly behind home plate. Along with being very close to the field, the tickets come with in-seat service and complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Delta SKY360° Club features multiple lounge areas and upscale amenities, including separate food & beverage areas, private bathrooms, and access to the Puckett Atrium.

CATCH, the new exclusive club at Target Field, features all-inclusive food and beverage, unparalleled access to the latest technology, and a vibrant entertainment experience. The club has a maximum capacity of 120 fans and is only available to season-ticket holders.

Tip: While exploring Target Field, take a walk over to the left-field Budweiser roof deck. The section is mainly standing room only, but you can check out the only bonfire in the Majors.

Food & Beverage

There are three large bars and restaurants around Target Field. A fan favorite is the Town Ball Tavern, where you will find a Jucy Lucy burger. The bar’s floor was formerly on the basketball court at the Minneapolis Armory during the NBA’s Minneapolis Lakers era. Hrbek’s is located behind home plate along the main concourse and is named after former Twins first baseman Kent Hrbek. In the upper concourse, behind home plate, you will find Two Gingers Pub. You’ll definitely want to visit the pub to get a glimpse of the Target Field organist, Sue Nelson, performing during games.

There are also dozens of concessions— every section has convenient and portable food options. See the full list of concessions to narrow it down.

A few local favorites are:
– Schweigert Hot Dogs
– Kramarczuk’s Sausage brats
– State Fair Classics
– Andrew Zimmern Canteen

The ballpark also has a great selection of craft beer, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages for everyone to enjoy.
