Things to Do in Park City

Nov 5, 2019 | Blog, West, Small Town Spotlight

Park City is best known for its fantastic skiing and the Sundance Film Festival, but there is so much more to do in this beautiful town located just 35 minutes from Salt Lake City. Today, we are looking beyond the slopes to highlight some of our other favorite activities.

Indoor Activities

Historic Main Street has plenty of shopping options. There are boutiques, galleries, and unique gift shops. Some of our picks are Gorsuch, Robert Kelly Home, and the Meyer Gallery. During your walk down the street be on the lookout for the Bear Bench, featuring Franz the bronze bear!

The Egyptian Theatre, dating back to the late 1800s, features live performances of all kinds. There are concerts, plays, stand-up comedy, and dance performances, so be sure to check their schedule for your visit.

The Park City Museum houses interesting displays about the town’s mining history, the influence of Sundance, and the local ski resorts.

Did you Know? Park City was once home to the world’s greatest silver mine.

If you are looking for some pampering, head to the Montage Deer Valley spa for a massage and relaxation in the hot tub or sauna and, afterwards, have champagne in the gorgeous lobby.

Outdoor Activities

There are hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running if you visit during the summer/fall. If you visit in the winter, try snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or even dog sledding.

Utah Olympic Park is the winter sports park built for the 2002 Olympics for the bobsled, skeleton, luge, and the Nordic combined events. Today, the building holds a gift shop of Olympics memorabilia and the Alf Engen Ski Museum. The entire facility is open to the public to wander the grounds. The park also hosts international competitions and is used as a training facility. While you are there, you might glimpse world class athletes practicing on the Nordic and aerial jumps. You can also buy a day pass to try out the onsite zipline, ropes course, and tubing. If you are really adventurous, you can even take a ride on the bobsled course!

If you have kids in tow, Woodward Park City offers 7 tubing runs, a mini-snowmobile track, and a toddler fort. For the big kids there are mountain bike courses, scooter ramps, and a trampoline park.

Events

Another way to enjoy a non-ski Park City vacation is to visit during a local event or festival. The Deer Valley Music Festival and Big Stars Bright Nights Concert Series both take place in an outdoor amphitheater. With a variety of musical acts, it’s possible to catch a great show almost every week from June through September. The Park City Kimball Arts Festival showcases artists form around the world the last weekend of July. Autumn Aloft is a hot air balloon festival that takes place in Park City every September, and is a delight for spectators!

Food & Beverage

  • Start your day at Atticus Coffee & Tea House. The charming coffee shop/local bookstore is a must for your visit to Park City.
  • The Eating Establishment is known for its “breakfast all day” and comfort food and is also Park City’s oldest full-service restaurant.
  • Grappa is one of our favorite spots for fine dining. This former boarding house opened in 1993 with classic Italian fare and great upstairs views.
  • Riverhorse on Main, located on Main Street, is one of the best Park City restaurants. The elegant dining room offers eclectic dishes and fine wine.
  • No Name Saloon is an awesome local spot for drinks and snacks. They also have heaters on their outdoor rooftop, so you can take in the mountain air all year long.
  • The High West Saloon in downtown Park City was the first legal in distillery in Utah since 1870. Locals and tourists alike flock here for delicious food and beverage, like their house-made pretzel served with whiskey and beer cheese.
