Located just 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on your way to Grand Canyon National Park, the Hoover Dam is an iconic piece of American industrial achievement with Art Deco style. The Hoover Dam is open every day of the year from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tours are available every day except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. While it’s easy to just drive by the dam or stop for a quick picture, trust us, take the dam tour!!!

Tour Options
- The Dam Guided Tour takes you to the top of the Hoover Dam on an elevator before descending to the inspection tunnels where you can view the Colorado River through a ventilation shaft. The tour also includes everything you would see on the Powerplant Tour and the Self -Guided Tour.

- The Guided Powerplant Tour takes you through the original construction tunnels before stopping at a viewing platform overlooking a 30-foot diameter penstock pipe where the Colorado River enters the facility for power generation. Your final stop is the Nevada Powerhouse where you will see eight large commercial generators in use.

- The Self-Guided Tour of the Visitor Center tells the story of the construction of the Hoover Dam and provides many amazing facts about the facility. Head to the Observation Deck for a great picture and don’t forget to visit the Original 1940s Exhibit Building.

Tour tickets for the Powerplant Tour can be booked online in advance. Tickets for the Dam Guided Tour are only available onsite on a first-come, first-served basis. Note: The Hoover Dam and Powerplant are still in active use, so tour schedules can be interrupted by planned and unplanned maintenance.

Spillway House – The multi-use LEED Certified green building will open to the public soon with education and event space. Check the website for events and upcoming reservations.
Bonus: While in the area, consider spending some time in Flagstaff, Arizona, exploring the Historic Downtown and Railroad District, or one of our favorite small towns, Williams, Arizona. If you’re headed east, take Route 66 and stop at the Hackberry General Store
