Two Roads Brewing in Connecticut

Nov 14, 2019 | Blog, Northeast, Brew, Distill & Ferment

Located in Stratford, Connecticut, Two Roads Brewing Company was created for those looking to take the “road less traveled” when it comes to craft beer. The brewery launched in 2012 and has been winning awards ever since, including one of the top ten best breweries in America by Paste Magazine.

The brewery is located in a century-old building with a brew house, tasting room, beer garden, and outdoor Hop Yard. In 2017 the brewery broke ground on Area Two Experimental Brewing, a facility used for experimental brewing techniques, wild yeast propagation, and storage for barrel-aged brews. When it comes to craft breweries in New England, this is hands down one of the best and worth the trip for any beer enthusiast!

The Beers

The brewery is known for its solid beers and taking a unique twist on classic beer styles. The selection can be overwhelming— you can choose brews from year-round, seasonal, tanker truck sours, The Road Less Traveled Series, Lambic-Style Series, and Captured Yeast Series, as well as limited releases and collaborations with other brewers. When you try them for yourself you will understand – these guys deserve all the accolades.

Our Favorites

It took us more than one trip to the tasting room to select our favorites, and we are still checking a few off our list!

  • Ol’ Factory Pils (5% ABV) Traditional with a dry hop twist. Brewed with a combination of classic German, as well as American hop and malt varieties.
  • Cherry Quad (10.30% ABV) An Abbey-style “quadruple” ale with classic Quad attributes of dark rum, figs, toffee, cocoa and spices augmented by a subtle but evident dark cherry character. There are notes of hard candy as well as a spiciness from the use of an authentic Trappist yeast.
  • Lambic Style Series: Hexotic (5.80% ABV) Featuring six different exotic fruits, Hexotic spent 28 months in oak and was fermented with “Brett C.”

Brewery Tours

Tours are available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and cost $5.00. Buy your tickets in the merchandise store on a first-come, first-served basis. The tours last about an hour and can accommodate 20 people. Make sure to show up early because they can definitely sell out.

Tasting Room

The tasting room is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00pm until 9:00pm. The hours on Sunday and Monday are from 12:00pm until 7:00pm.

Pints and tasters are available in the tasting room. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but it does get very busy on the weekends, especially in the summer months. Starting at 3:30pm on weekdays, and all day on the weekends, there are food trucks at the brewery. The website has a food truck schedule. You can also bring food, order takeout from their menu book, or purchase snacks.

Area 2 Experimental Brewing

The recent expansion of Two Roads Brewery is called Area Two Experimental Brewing. The 25,000 square-foot space brews the Brett beers, sours, and spirit-based, barrel-aged beers. The Lambics and any beer requiring aging are also made at Area Two. Besides storage for 1,500 wood barrels, there is also a tasting room, outdoor deck, and a private event facility.

Area Two is open from 12:00 to 9:00pm on Tuesday to Saturday. The hours are from 12:00 to 7:00pm on Sunday and Monday. The tasting room has over a dozen sours, ales, and barrel-aged beers to sample and enjoy. Thirty-minute tours cost $5.00 and are available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
