Off the Beaten Path: Kaiolohia “Shipwreck Beach” in Lanai

There might not be a better place to relax and recharge than the small island of Lanai in Hawaii. After checking into one of the two spectacular Four Seasons Resorts, spend the rest of your time relaxing by the pool and taking short trips to the secluded beaches and unique landmarks across the island.
One of the unforgettable places to visit is Kaiolohia or “Shipwreck Beach,” located on the north shore about 30 minutes from Lanai City. You won’t find any signs, so make sure you get good directions from the concierge before starting out on your 4-wheel adventure. Once you arrive, you’ll probably have the 8-mile stretch of beach to yourself. The beach’s name is spot-on, as you’ll see actual shipwrecks off in the distance. The largest visible wreck is an oil tanker that failed to safely navigate the occasionally unforgiving winds and shallow waters in the 1940’s.
